Group Classifications and Group Percentage Charts
The retirement plan classifies members into groups based on their occupation, position or duties. It is possible for a member to hold positions throughout his or her career that are classified in more than one group. Middlesex County Retirement System members are classified as follows:
- Group 1: officials and general employees including clerical, administrative and technical workers, laborers, mechanics and all others not otherwise classified
- Group 2: certain statutory occupations, including ambulance attendants and licensed electricians employed as such by a municipality
- Group 4: public safety employees, such as police officers, firefighters, and certain employees of a municipal electric light department
A member’s Group Classification and membership date will determine the age factor that is used when calculating a member’s retirement allowance. For a list of the age factors and estimates of the benefit percentage at which members will retire based on their age and years of service, refer to the charts listed below.
