Governor Sends back COLA Increase to Legislature

On July 28, 2022, Governor Baker signed into law the 2023 State Budget Bill. Section 134 of the Bill, which provides retirees with a one-time increase from 3% to up to of 5% of the COLA base in Fiscal Year 2023, was not signed by the Governor, who sent back the section to the Legislature with suggested amendments.

Currently, Section 134 remains with the Legislature and is not yet approved.  The Middlesex County Retirement Board supports the one-time COLA increase and is aware of its importance to our retirees.  The Board is closely monitoring its progress and will promptly report any change of status.
