Plan Summary

 

Originally created by an Act of the Legislature in 1911, the Middlesex County Retirement System is the fourth largest of the 104 retirement systems in the Commonwealth.  It is a defined benefit plan that provides retirement, disability and survivor benefits to approximately 6,000 retirees and 10,000 active employees of 31 towns and 40 districts and authorities within Middlesex County.

The Middlesex County Retirement System is governed by Massachusetts General Laws c. 32 and 34B. It operates as a qualified plan under section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code and sets forth the benefits, contribution requirements, accounting and funds structure for all retirement systems.
